ESPN Contracts Kenny Chesney To Write CFB Song

Thursday, August 27, 2009

ESPN rarely uses country music for bumps and intros, but when it comes to College Football, they go all out. For years they used Big & Rich's "We're Coming To Your Citaaaaaay" for their CFB telecast, but now they've taken it a step forward. They actually got Kenny Chesney to pen an original song for their use on Saturdays....

Award-winning country music star Kenny Chesney, known for his high-energy stadium concerts, has written a song exclusively for ESPN’s college football game and studio telecasts during Dick’s Sporting Goods Kickoff Week (Sept. 3-7) and Championship Saturday (Dec. 5) as well as select contests throughout the season and bowl games. ESPN will have the exclusive premiere of the song during its pregame show Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m.

The song, “This is Our Moment,” captures the passion and dedication of the players to perform at the highest level each week with the understanding that every game counts. It will be used during game and studio telecasts and during promotions of upcoming programs and show elements across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN360.com, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN International. On select occasions, the song will be accompanied by a video montage of Chesney performing at a recent concert, along with college football highlights.
If you ask me, this move is genius. Especially when you consider the amount of games ESPN broadcasts in the South. You may not enjoy Country music yourself, but there are almost three times as many Country stations in America, compared to any other genre.

A Kenny Chesney song and a Lou Holtz opinion will be the two best reasons to use the mute button this year!!

Too bad the initial idea to alternate between the USC & Notre Dame fight songs was denied.

As long as Chesney puts a little of zing in my zang zang....

Nice job college football, you found a way to be even more retarded by integrating Kenny Chesney into your productions. Yet another reason NOT to watch college football at the D1 level has arisen. Thanks Kenny.

I live in Alabama and I absolutely HATE country music, yet here I am, checking the blog and seeing we're getting more country music in CFB AND the NFL. Curse you, ESPN. Curse you.

Just another reason I should not have to be subject to this cr*p while trying to watch football.

I find it funny that people who complain about country listen to corporate rock, pop, and rap promoted by Top 40 b.s. They're all pretty much as bad. I'll take Kenny Chesney over 3 Doors Down, Rhianna, or Jay-Z any day of the week.
