Mad Dog Takes On Artie Lange

Thursday, June 18, 2009

Yesterday, there was more fallout from the whole Joe Buck/Artie Lange exchange on Monday night, and while HBO was issuing apologies, Lange was trying to defend himself. Lange went on Chris Russo's Sirius Show yesterday, and the two station mates battled about his "set" on Joe Buck Live....

I could have done without all of the yelling, but both parties had good points. Russo was just trying to state that it wasn't funny, and while I tend to agree with him for the most part, some people are obviously going to disagree. The more I think about this, the more I think it's HBO's fault. They knew what they were getting when they asked Lange to come on, and even moreso, when they directed him to "spice it up". Plus, you can't expect to get what you want, when you don't set any guidelines. Lesson learned, I guess.

Man, what a bunch of asshats. In Artie's defense (can not believe I am defending this clown), he did exactly what HBO wanted him to, whether they are admitting it or not. waaa waa waaa, Artie Lange is a raging, crass homophobe...yeah, right HBO. Does anyone think HBO really cares that Artie firebombed Joe Buck's set? Seems to me a huge slap in oe Buck's pompus melon that HBO didn't have any more respect for him than to gas him on the first show with bringing Artie on.

Not to say that either guy is right or wrong, but Russo did less talking than making non-sensible noises over top of Lang trying to make points.

Russo did make the point, "He's got no credibility with comedic comedy."

What the fuck is that?

Jeez, is Artie tipping the scales at 400 yet?

Artie Lange was absolutely hilarious on Joe Buck Live. He killed. I don't know where Russo gets off saying it wasn't funny. I guarantee that the majority of people watching the segment thought it was funny. You could argue that the setting wasn't right for that type of comedy but don't say it wasn't funny.

What's even better is tuning in before that and hearing Russo say that his staff are all young guys with no taste because they haven't see On the Waterfront (1951) or The Best Year of Our Lives (1946), which is about vets returning after WWII and features a real soldier with no hands (he has metal hooks).

Artie Lange will be dead soon and we'll all be able to laugh about this - Joe Buck included.
