Kornsheiser Speaks About MNF Decision

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

We've heard from a lot of people on Tony Kornheiser's decision to leave Monday Night Football, and about his replacement Jon Gruden, but we had yet to hear from Tony himself. That is until tonight. Kornheiser explained his decision at the very end of PTI, and delved deeper into the notion that travel was the reason....

If the man hates flying, the man hates flying. Oh and the Hall of Fame comment was pretty damn funny. There was also a veiled shot at Gruden's different faces at the end of the program, but I cut the video off.

It's never about incompetence, is it?

OJ sucked, but it wasn't about incompetence, Namath sucked, the same...

Good riddance Tony, you didn't have the balls to grow into a Cosell figure for everyone to despise.

Was Cosell afraid of flying? What a whiny little douche.

@hollywood wags- wait; so the fact that he's afraid to fly makes him a whiny little douche? I guess the fact that I suffer from acrophobia(look it up) makes me a whiny little douche, too?
Must be nice to be so perfect.

If you really like the game, you don't care about travels. And you can't say no to the MNF booth...

That's the reason why Tony Kornheiser took the MNF job. Becasue even tough he hates to fly (Which is hard to beleive that people think he is making it up)He took the job becasue you can't say no to MNF. I agree with Tony whn he say that he thought he was getting better, he was, but I think Gruden will be a good addtion.

This fear of flying reasoning seems pretty thinly-veiled to me. Seems obvious to me that ESPN "suggested" he step aside, because the viewers didn't like him.

Hey, Unholy Diver, I think I'm a mild acrophobic, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying air travel. They're not necessarily the same thing.

Bullshit on the fear of flying excuse. Does he live in Bristol?

He sucks, everyone knows it, and this thin-skinned asshole who rips everyone to shreds can't handle being the butt of jokes or being criticized.

I'm not talking about myself, I'm talking about Mr. Yellow Journalism, Tony Korny.

Unlike many other posters, I actually liked Tony Kornheiser. I guess it's because while I love the NFL passionately, I don't have a problem with historical references or commentary outside the gridiron realm occasionally. Most of the time, he had really good takes but the Brett Favre obsession was exasperating, I must confess. Gruden will also be good as he knows his stuff. I would really like Sterling Sharpe or Jim Rome as the third analyst though, if Chucky goes to Notre Dame shortly.
