Breaking: CBS Releases Announcer Pairings For NCAA Tournament

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Obviously the biggest change for this year's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on CBS, is the fact that Billy Packer will not be involved in the Madness. Because of that move, Clark Kellogg is taking over his seat next to Jim Nantz, and Greg Anthony will be filling Kellogg's role in-studio. Other than that, nothing has changed since last season. Here are your pairings, and while their locations haven't quite been sorted out, you can plan on the top four teams being your Sweet Sixteeners....

Jim Nantz/Clark Kellogg
Dick Enberg/Carter Blackburn/Jay Bilas
Verne Lundquist/Bill Raftery
Gus Johnson/Len Elmore
Kevin Harlan/Dan Bonner
Ian Eagle/Jim Spanarkel
Craig Bolerjack/Bob Wenzel
Tim Brando/Mike Gminski

(Reporters: Lesley Visser, Tracy Wolfson and Sam Ryan)

Again, I've never really had a problem with the pairings that CBS comes up with, and after last season the only team I would have dropped would have been Brando and Gminski. Should be another fun month of March, my friends!

All those announcers are top-notch except Bolerjack (seriously?) and Brando (most. boring. ever.)

However, somebody needs to tell Len Elmore to cheer up.

The fact that Bolerjack and Brando are still on there is extremely disturbing.

Len could use some Patch Adams medicine.

Putting the most exciting guy(Gus Johnson) with the most boring guy (Elmore) is just wrong.

Imagine if Gus and Bill Raftery were paired together. The world might explode.

No James Brown? Thank you, CBS.

JB wasn't that bad. He is better than Bolerjack and Brando. I'll tell you that much.

Gus Johnson needs to be one of the top tier guys. I need him every round. Every day that I don't hear his voice, I die a little inside.

James Brown should be in the studio, he is so much better than Greg Gumbel in the studio. Gumbel should be with Bilas, I hate saying it, if they need Carter Blackburn to relieve some of the workload for Dick Enberg, I believe it is Enberg "O My" time to retire. CBS should move up Kevin Harlan in both basketball and football coverage.

We got Johnson and Raftery last Sunday. Sadly, that was a Big 10 game. Nuff said.

Yay, WenzelJack is back! I personally do not have a problem with Craig Bolerjack, but Wenzel is downright awful. Him and Enberg (who I used to really like, but I'm now on board with the feeling that he needs to retire) were a trainwreck during the MVC Championship game. Wenzel has very little insight, in my opinion, and often times just sounds like a Bill Raftery wannabe.

I wonder when Carter Blackburn will be receiving his high school diploma?

Here's hoping that Gus Johnson can give us a memorable call this year!

I watch a lot of the ACC Sunday Nighters and can't stand Brando, but Gminski does a more than fair job

@ Mike Georger: For one thing, it will stimulate the local economy more than any of the bailout money did.

"Down goes the Dominican!"

Does it get better than that?

Anything with Raf is great. He would be great with Gus, Eagle (from the Nets days), but he's still special with Uncle Verne. Onions!

I blame Kwame Kilpatrick.

You know what I'm most depressed about? No Kevin Harlan/John Thompson/Bill Raftery FF coverage. Stupid TNT.

Gmenski always reminds me of Bill Lumburg with his suspenders. My hope is that Harlan gets assigned in the subregional that VCU plays in so we can be treated by another "Dagger" moment.

Hands down worst paring Johnson Elmore. Len Snaggle Elmore ruins everything, and with this pairing he's ruining Johnson too. Gross. Just gross.

Len Elmore is the worst announcer for College Basketball. What does it take to get this guy excited? He is knowledgeable, I'll give him that, but he is completely boring and dry. He should be announcing golf or tennis. It's a waste of good basketball to put this guy with Gus Johnson. What does CBS see in him? We are not watching coaches film in some dark locker room. What is it with this guy?
