Las Vegas Bowl Open Thread

Saturday, December 20, 2008

It's a battle to see which coach can look less comfortable between two showgirls.

Game: Las Vegas Bowl
Teams: Arizona Wildcats (7-5) vs. BYU Cougars (10-2)
Location: Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV.
Announcers and Network: Mike Patrick, Todd Blackledge, and Holly Rowe. No word if Todd will be doing a Taste of the Town at a high-end casino's buffet or faux-classy restaurants.
Start Time: 8 PM EST. Get something fruity to drink, with an umbrella. Get into the spirit of things here.
Odds: Arizona (-3.5)
S2N's Pick: BYU. Repeat after me: MIKE STOOPS LOSES FOOTBALL GAMES. Additionally, this might as well be a home game for BYU since their fans descend upon Vegas in droves every year for this one, and this time they're not playing UCLA. Mountain West owned the Pac-10 this year. Expect the Cougars to drop the Wildcats like they're third period French.

Hey, don't forget about women's volleyball championship on ESPN2: Penn State vs. Stanford. What's better than watching hot girls in spandex?

Did the bowl organizers give Barney Rubble that striped tie?

"Come on, don't make fun of the kicker!" - Mike Patrick, as the Zona kicker kicks a fumble out of bounds.

I feel bad for byu and Arizona fans. Mike Patrick and Todd Blackledge are incompetent. They know nothing about either team and obviously have not even watched tape of these teams. And what they do know, they never back up with anything. They LOVE austin collie and have no idea that he talks more crap than anyone. Please ESPN, stop allowing these guys to work any games.

Blackledge: "Austin Collie is a pretty player. His uniform is always tight."

Before the Arizona FG (as a graphic showed Bondzio was 13 for 15 on FGs):

Patrick: "Bondzio is 10 out of 13 this year. His only misses are from 48 and 45."

Patrick: "And now here's the view from the Pyro....Pyro. I'll get it right. Pioneer Kuro Skycam."

"I love people that can speak another language" - Patrick, after BYU players say Merry Christmas in various languages.

Yea, considering English is a challenge for Patrick, no wonder he's impressed.

"He was a little late trying to wedge it in the endzone." - Blackledge on BYU QB Max Hall getting stopped at goal line

This is the worst officiated game I have seen in a while. HOW LONG DO THEY NEED TO FIGURE OUT A CALL??????? And then get it wrong every time. wow.

Meh...I think that last review call was correct. The receiver did not have the ball long enough to constitute possession. He may have made a football move after the catch, but he didn't have enough time to transfer the ball from a catch position to a running-back like position. While CFB does not have a tuck rule, they came to a tuck-rule-like conclusion right there. Despite everyone hating it, the tuck rule actually makes sense. Why should someone be punished while trying to secure the ball?

That aside, it shouldn't have taken five minutes to reverse that decision.

Anon...your last part is what I was thinking in my insane rant. If you need to have inconclusive evidence to overturn a call, then it should not take 5 minutes to figure that out. I mean, wouldn't that mean that they did not have inconclusive evidence. They were LOOKING and LOOKING to find evidence and then FINALLY found it. Not good use of instant replay.

The Arizona coaching staff actually asked Holly Rowe how many catches Mike Thomas had while the game was going on? Aren't there GAs for that kind of info? Lord knows what questions EA get during the game.
