NFL Open Thread - Week 9 Late Games

Sunday, November 02, 2008

What we've picked up on from the earlies:

  • Arizona is absolutely destroying the St. Louis secondary, as Kurt Warner apparently sold his soul to somebody to get this much of a lease on his NFL career. Either that or God hates Matt Leinart.
  • For some reason, Matt Schaub is out for the Texans and Sage Rosenfels is back there, which is never good. Vikings up 14, and my fantasy team just got screwed.
  • Titans up by 3 in a tight one with the Packers.
  • SEXY REXY IS BACK. Kyle Orton went out with a bad-looking injury, but the feast-or-famine nature of the Chicago offense has returned, never mind the fact that their defense is bad enough now to give up 23 points to the Lions.
  • Tyler Thigpen is outplaying Jeff Garcia this week, although Garcia has the Bucs within 5 in KC. 24-19, Chiefs.
  • The old Browns and the new Browns are all tied up at 27.
  • Guess that fight in Cincy has inspired the Jags, as they're within 8 points of the Bengals now, also looking for their first win. Indictment of Jack Del Rio: he's let Ryan Fitzgerald throw two TDs against his defense.
  • Turnover and bumble-fest up in Buffalo between the Bills and the Jets. New York's lead is now 6 after a Buffalo pick six on Favraro's 300th INT of his career.
Fox:

Dallas @ NY Giants - Joe Buck, Troy Aikman
Philadelphia @ Seattle - Dick Stockton, Brian Baldinger
Atlanta @ Oakland - Matt Vasgersian, J.C. Pearson

CBS:

Miami @ Denver - Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf

FOX in Atlanta broke away to commercial right as Bironas was lining up for that FG. Did he win the game?

Alex - yes. FG from 41 was good.

Now they've cut into the Oakland broadcast talking about DeAngelo Hall playing against the Falcons. They never mentioned what's going on with Packers/Titans.

Splendid.

FOX did the same in Seattle. Why do we put up with this crap as fans?

FOX just cut out of Titans-Pack game right as Bironas was lining up to kick OT field goal to 'take me to DH game in my home market' and I get a 3 minute commercial! Awful!

FOX in New York cut from the titans, went to commercial, and then cut to the giants pre-game while buck was mid-sentence.

S2N

Per PFT, Schaub suffered knee injury in first half.

Also hell of a block by # 84 of Seahacks to spring Koren Robinson for TD

And Seattle scores a 90-yard TD. So, how long after one of my Philly teams gets me a parade am I allowed to start booing again?

I know Fox had to cut away because of "contractual requirements", but couldnt they have stayed until the late games kicked off or showed a split screen.

I got a screenful of Stockton and Baldinger, not good.

On WFAN, Carl Banks just made a comment about Eli's throws and how "his balls are coming out pretty fast." Nice.

JG - that's two out of three QBs I got that are now hurt (Romo being the other.) Crap.

Bob L - if the Eagles lose to the Seahawks you may commence booing. NFC East teams shouldn't be losing to NFC West teams.

Oh gee, surprise, surprise, Cutler throws a pick six. FUCK.

Also, Brad Johnson just got picked. Jerry Jones is probably wishing he'd invested more in a reliable backup.

jg, I expected the same, but I would have at least liked for FOX to stick around for the possible game-ending kick that Bironas was LINING UP FOR. Seriously, it's like an extra 4 seconds.

Damn, Boomer's making waves. Talkin all kinds of shit about the refs.

And Marino just called Berrian "BerriMan" at least 3 times.

"Arizona didnt come east, but still won on road." - Stockton

I guess the Cardinals took the short hop around the world flight to get to St Louis.

"He's not known for having patience with QBs." - Baldinger on Holmgren, maybe having the Gunslinger as your QB all those years had something to do with it.

FOX CAN NOT STAY with the game (unless it was THE game in your market 1 second past 4:15 et) in the contract. Rules are rules. Blame the NFL, not FOX.

That's true, but I think it was about 4:10, still a couple minutes before kickoff.

The Eagles are tied with the Seahawks. I'm amazed. Really.

re: Fox: Yeah, that is an absolutely sucky rule that really needs to go. When the clock strikes a certain time (4:10?), they just cut away, regardless of the game and situation.

But the guy just said a player was "higher than the crowd at a Snoop Dogg concert."

As always, Dick Stockton is displaying his hate for all things Eagles. It's never what the Eagles do, it's always what the opponent does, did, or could have done.

"The Eagles have never played in this stadium before" - Brian Baldinger.

Quest Field opened in 2002. The Eagles played at Seattle December 8, 2002.

Something just didn't sound right when he said it, that's why I looked it up.

"The Eagles were hoping they would be the end to end the curse." - Brian Baldinger claiming the Ealges are jealous of the Phillies without any sources, quotes, or even hints of a quote from a source.

Dear Joe Buck,

I have a raging headache from listening to you state the obvious and just being a jerkoff, in general. Please STFU.

Thank you.
