AA's Prediction:

Due to not being able to move a weekly engagement away from Monday nights, I'll probably be going with open threads the rest of the season unless something changes. I'll be recording and checking in later tonight with vids though, so if you have anything to share, feel free to do so in the comments.

Saints 31 - Packers 24

22 Comments:

You just hate us, don't you, AA?

I'm kidding. For the next 3 weeks I'll take over the live blogging of MNF at my blog but after that it will be unlikely that I'll be able to contribute for a month or so during winter break. Maybe SSReporters or someone will take the reigns from me after that as he's live blogged games before.

www.fireandyreidnow.blogspot.com is the place to be at 8:30 for a live blog. I'll paste the threads on here once the game is over and if I feel up to it I will I'll re-paste some Dr. Kornheiser gems (remember it's a Green Bay game so you know a certain someone will be talked about beyond belief._

You know Kim Kardashian's sisters? According to Joel McHale, they're all dead behind the eyes.

Did anyone catch the play early in the game when the Packers were about to score their first touch... they went no huddle, and the saints had to call a timeout... then the ref said that they didn't have to call a timeout becuase the Packers didn't allow the Saints to "match up"... I've never heard that before, but they gave them back the timeout. Is that for real?

Hey, did anyone else hear because I sure haven't? Apparently Green Bay would have won tonight with Brett Favre as their quarterback, I don't know why anyone, such as a 24 hour sports tv station, isnt talking about it....

Your Monday Night in quotes (so it's easy for AA)

"Feels a little different than last week in open-air Buffalo where it was minus 45 degrees." - Dr. Kornheiser

"It's the Sarah Palin moment for John McCain." - Dr. Kornheiser on the Pack switching to Rodgers.

"This is what Green Bay will do to you, spread you out with 3 wide receivers." - Jaws saying what every NFL team does.

"It's kind of a prehistoric formation" - Jaws on the I-Formation

"At least you know there's a crowd here." - Dr. Kornheiser on the rejuvenation of the Saints fans after the Saints tied at 7.

"Tonight Bobby McCrae is going to have to play well." - Jaws

"That's a pretty graphic." - Dr. Tony Kornheiser

He's completing passes to guys found on Bourbon Street." - Dr. Kornheiser on the Saints receivers who seem to come from nowhere
"Bourbon Street?" - Jaws
"Well maybe St. Louis Street" - Dr. Kornheiser

"They rushed only 3. That means they dropped 8 into coverage." - Jaws explaining a football so the 3-year olds watching understand what's going on.

"McCarthy with a red pen today. I don't know if this a political statement." - Dr. Kornheiser

"Gotta get a little rub element there." - Jaws

"11 seconds left in the longest 1st quarter in the NFL. This game's been going on for an hour." - Dr. Kornheiser. At that point they had only been on the air for 50 minutes, which includes the long open.

"A shot of Brees. He may pass Dan Marino tonight." - Dr. Kornheiser

"Green Bay was so desperate in their running back search." - Mike Tirico with an understatement.

"40:30 that's the number that sticks out to me. The amount of time the Jets had the ball." - Mike Tirico
"I thought you were talking about today's score." - Dr. Kornheiser

"He laid out, nothing touched the ground." - Jaws

"They're a high-fiveing, back slapping bunch of guys." - Jaws
"I agree and I know you're going to poo-poo this..." - Dr. Kornheiser. +1 to anyone who mentions poo-poo on a sports telecast. And yes, I know what is meant here by the term "poo-poo".

"That would have been good all the way from 32." - Dr. Kornheiser on a barely made 30-yd field goal.

"He goes five-hole on the official to the side." - Mike Tirico on Mike McCarthy's challenge

"Can I challenge the challenge?" - Mike Tirico

"A lot of cheese heads down here. A lot of Packers fans made the trip." - Mike Tirico
"And a lot of Brees-heads." - Dr. Kornheiser

"The Saints have never won consecutive games. They've won 5 games, but never followed any win up with another win." - Dr. Kornheiser

"Meanwhile the Lions season continues." - Mike Tirico

"A tradition unlike any other." - Mike Tirico on the Lions losing.

"Cedrick Ellis, who is auditioning for Warren Sapp's role on Dancing with the Stars." - Mike Tirico

"I don't think I would have hung on to catch." - Dr. Kornheiser on a Jackson catch where upon catching it he got the shit knocked out of him and managed to hang on to it.

"This is the Packers' version of the wildcat." - Ron Jaworski on the Pack running QB draws (with Rodgers)

"He's wearing a blue sharpie instead of a red one." - Dr. Kornheiser. Remember the sharpie quote from above?

"Are they trying to get a higher rating on the BCS standings?" - Dr. Kornheiser on the Saints attempting a 2-point conversion up 22.

"Jaws, will you bite my head off, if I mention Brett Favre one more time?" - Dr. Kornheiser
"Yes!" - Jaws

"I hear we're inviting Jimmy Kimmel back. The ban has been lifted." - Mike Tirico being sarcastic (I think.)

"Becuase you can't watch every single game, we'll show you highlights." - Stu Scott

"....Nawlins..." - Stu Scott

That's all the quotes but if you want to read my jokes on them and the play-by-play of the game....

Stu, Steve, and Emmitt was a huge clusterfuck on SportsCenter. I don't know what they were talking about, but they were all yelling and interupting each other.

OK, something was really eating me up last night. Tony Kornholer compared Drew Brees to Marino in 84, Warner in 01, and Brady last year all on their way to possibly breaking Seasonal Yardage records and said, "Sure he's on his way to breaking the record, but all those guys made it to the Superbowl, I don't think the Saints have much of a shot at the playoffs at 5-5"

Yes, Marino, Warner, and Brady all went to the Superbowl in those years, but they lost. Seriously, how do you forget something like that?

@ anon @ 10:34: It wasn't said during the game but I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that the Dolphins started out 5-5 that year.
