Joe Theismann Thinks The Titans Will Go Undefeated

Thursday, November 06, 2008

After learning that Joey Sunshine was going to be on Inside the NFL yesterday, you just knew I would have something on him today. About halfway through the show the panel was discussing the Titans when Theismann dropped a bombshell on the group. He predicted that the Titans would go undefeated.

Now I know what you're thinking. There's no way in hell they can win the rest of the eight games on their schedule. Well, our friend Joe actually made a pretty good case for the team....

It's obviously highly unlikely, but based on his analysis there, I guess it's possible. Their schedule is really favorable, and anything can happen in those last two weeks. I still don't think it's happening, but at least Theismann knows what he's talking about these days. Unlike Cris Collinsworth, who at one point said he wanted the NFL to shrink the size of balls so more players could be QBs, and his reasoning was because backup quarterback have been so terrible this year.

Yep, Kerry Collins, Gus Frerotte, Jeff Garcia, Kurt Warner, Matt Cassel and Byron Leftwich have all been awful this season. I'll give him Brad Johnson, and whoever Kansas City is currently starting, but other than that he's way off with that line of thinking.

Let's no overcorrect to Collinsworth's overstatement. Collins has not been good this year, he's just not been horrible - it's his team that has been good (Collins has a whopping 3 TDs in 8 games). Frerotte also checks in with a 70s passer rating (8 TDs in 6 games) and Leftwich has played one half. And let's not mention the backup QBs you didn't mention (Orlovsky, Grossman, Fitzpatrick, Huard, B. Johnson, etc).

Theismann does have a good point -- all those offenses are very shitty until Pittsburgh and Indianapolis, and who knows what shape those two teams will be in in 6 weeks!

Normally, I don't like Joe Theesmann, but I think he's on to something there.

LOL lemmings. you're doing EXACTLY what Theismann wants.
he wants you talking about him so tv execs take notice and think you'll watch him regularly.
he doesn't believe for a second the Titans can go undefeated, but knows that's will get you fired up and talking about him.
when will you lemmings EVER learn.
when you HATE an announcer, IGNORE them and they'll go away.

Joey T has just doomed the Titans to an 8 - 8 record.

Critiquing Joe Theismann's overall suckiness won't get Joey T his Colonial Penn Life Insurance endorsements back, Anon 7:37.

Joe Theismann still sucks. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I watched the Packers-Titans game a week ago and give kudos to Tennessee for winning, but Collins threw a couple of picks that the Packers dropped. If Nick Collins and Atari Bigby had hauled them in, the Titans probably would have lost.
