Kimbo Slice Gets TKO'd, Gus Johnson Goes Crazy

Monday, October 06, 2008

I still love Gus, but this whole Elite XC thing just ain't working for CBS. The ratings were about the same for Kimbo's second trip into the ring for the network, but now that their star has a loss under his belt (and to a back up fighter), it's going to just go downhill from here.

Here's a clip of the TKO of Slice by Seth Petruzelli and just listen to Gus lose his mind on the call. The fight gets underway at the 4:55 mark...

"The most incredible victory in the history of mixed martial arts!!!!"- Gus Johnson

Hahahaha. Whoa there buddy. Now I know I'm not the best person to be talking about MMA upsets, but I'm guessing that doesn't even come close to ranking near the top. I like the character of Kimbo Slice as much as the next person, but they really need to stop pretending like he's Zeus, or they're going to be out of the MMA business quicker than they got in.

Kimbo Slice Is Officially A Fraud (With Leather)

(Thanks to WJ for the clip)

I don't know what the big deal about Kimbo Slice ever was considering all he did was fight crackheads on the Miami streets. All of a sudden he's a trained MMA fighter. Sheeeeeeiiit. He basically lost the first time to Thompson and was most certainly exposed. This time around he was finished. Now we can all go back to watching Slice fight bums and go to afterparties.

Glad you're with me on this one AA. Johnson simply has to try too hard to do a quality broadcast on the Elite programs, whereas he is a natural on college hoops.

He had several miscalls on different holds and you can tell he is thinking way too hard before speaking. It's sore-thumby at best, and painful to listen to at times.

Mauro Ranallo is simply the best at calling MMA--his voice, enthusiasm, knowledge are second to none and he even makes his corny metaphors work and generate laughs.

Johnson is superfluous on the telecast. He's just not needed there.

And finally, I'll bet when most MMA fans heard Petruzelli was the replacement they thought Kimbo would lose. I was not surprised a bit--just at the quickness of the KO.

I don't even really consider it an upset, to be honest.

When the posterboy of your 'sport' is a fake and fraud like Slice, its apparent your 'sport' probably shouldn't exist.

MMA/UFC is for white, college frat boys who would piss themselves if they ever found themselves in a real fight. It's no more entertaining than the gladiator games of ancient Rome.

Gus is doing his best with a terrible 'sport' and an upset that just saw the biggest name lose. What this means is there is now little to no audience left for the CBS experiment.

@ anon

"MMA/UFC is for white, college frat boys who would piss themselves if they ever found themselves in a real fight. It's no more entertaining than the gladiator games of ancient Rome."

If the first sentence didn't display your stupidity, the second captures it nicely.

It's a stretch to say that one Kimbo Slice loss is going to put Elite XC out of business.

But....yeah....he sucks.

"If you have a dream. If you're willing to step into a cage and fight for your life, then you can be anything you want."

Words to live by my friends. I was just planning on going to the zoo tomorrow to look at the animals. Now, I plan on jumping straight into the lion cage and fighting for my life.
