Boomer Esiason Calls Out Troy Aikman For His Bias Towards The Cowboys

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I honestly thought that Troy Aikman did a pretty good job of keeping the pro-Cowboys talk down during the Redskins game, and maybe it's because he knows people are paying attention, but last Sunday's call was just way heavy with praise for Dallas. You wouldn't have even known the Cardinals were playing if it was just the audio of the game, and apparently I'm not the only person who thought so.

Boomer Esiason was on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show yesterday to talk all things Football, and he pulled no punches with bringing up the FOX analyst....

I couldn't agree more, but there are two really interesting things that this little tiff brings up. First, is that you rarely here two ex-players from the same position ever call each other out. As if that wasn't enough, it's almost equally as rare that an analyst would even bring up another analyst's name up. Nevermind the fact that he works for a rival network.

With that said, I'm all for people holding each other accountable in the Sports Media World. Buck and Aikman have honestly improved as a team, but they seem to regress every time they call a Cowboys' game. Another Cowboy, Daryl Johnston, is calling the Dallas-Rams this week, but he'll more than likely be on the call for weeks 8 (TB-DAL) and 9 (DAL-NYG).

Dennis and Callahan: Boomer Esiason (WEEI)

To be fair, the last time the Bengals were legitimately good was when Boomer was the QB. I'm from Cincinnati, so this gives me an air of semi-authority.

The fact that you are a Bengals fan that hasn't swallowed the barrel of a shotgun yet makes you more than just a semi-authority!

I don't think you can just blame Aikman. You have to blame Joe Buck and the Fox staff...that was basically a Cowboys broadcast, like what you'd see if a local Dallas station was producing the game.

not that i like Aikman at all, but how funny would it be if he just sent Boomer an autographed photo of his 3 rings and the inscription "Bias This"...Boomer is awful. There is a reason MNF tv fired him and that no one watches CBS' pregame. He is just like Curt Schilling and likes to hear himself talk.

Someone should call out the TBS announcing crew that is showing bias towards the Rays.

This has been going on for over 30 years. CBS routinely assigned Summerall/Brookshier and Summerall/Madden to Dallas or the Giants. I complained to CBS about the one-sided announcing. Nothing was done -- not even when the ratings began to go down.

BTW, expect Aikman to work Giants-Steelers (late game of Week 8 doubleheader) instead of Bucs-Cowboys.

As other folks have already noted, I think it's a network issue rather than an announcer issue.

I also find it funny that this comes from Boomer since he played for Arizona for a couple of seasons.

You should do a post about the blatant bias in FOX's NLCS broadcasts. Clearly pulling for ManRam and the Dawdgas

And keep in mind the role of NBC's flex scheduling in all this, not to mention the changing circumstances of the season. *SHAMELESS PLUG* http://morganwick.blogspot.com/search/label/snf%20flex%20scheduling%20watch - and tune in tomorrow for the up-to-date Watch!

Norman needs to STFU. Look at his own set - Marino's all about the Dolphins, and Shannon's slobbering all over the Bronco Nation.

Maybe he's just a bitter ex-Cardinal.

Hey "Boom"? Are you on Nutrisystem?

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. It's not like Jimmy Johnson doesn't always swoon over Cowboy developments. Or remember Howie Long's weird ad hominem attack on the media coverage of certified cuckoo nut Al Davis. Or when Terry Bradshaw said he wanted the Steelers to run down Ray Lewis in their cars. Or when Michael Strahan said "Check out my Super Bowl rings...sure hope they get another and really piss off that jackass Tiki Barber!"

All this happened.

Boomer should talk. He is consistently pro-Jets, and you can tell often that he is a former Card. He ought to start calling out his idiot radio partner Carton.

I'd just like to say that the guy on the left--John Dennis, a less-than-mediocre Boston TV sports guy in his former life--looks like a mortician. For other sports media hacks who may be wondering what that is, it's an undertaker.

Esiason is a jealous creep who got canned on Monday Night Football because he stunk and then blamed everyone but the janitor. The guy's a fraud. Discount everything that phony hypocrite says.

If you watch enough games you'll notice everyone has a bias one way or another. Dan Dierdorf pisses me off when he does Broncos Games (disclosure: Raider Fan).

What I think is funny is that the last couple of weeks ex-Cowboys have been doing Redskins games, and it's all I can do to keep my roommate from throwing the remote at the TV when Aikman or Moose Johnston opens his mouth.

As a Redskins fan, I can tell you that Troy Aikman is NOT pro-Cowboys. In the last 3 years, he has made comments that have angered a number of Cowboys fans. I just think that Boomer is furious because no one, namely FOX is giving the Cardinals love, many observers think they can win the West, but they could wind up being one and done in the playoffs. Don't forget this is the same guy that praised the Minnesota Vikings and said they were a team that's going to the playoffs last year and there was not one mention of the Washington Redskins, low and behold, the Redskins make the playoffs, the Vikings don't. Take that up your Funk & Wagnalls, Norman!

I think its bs. More people in Dallas are pissed at Troy when he calls the Cowboys games that anybody else.

He's always down the middle when he calls their games and was one of the few analysts to question the praising of T.O.'s blocking. He should also get credit for carrying the past his prime Dick Stockton in the Cardinals game. It felt like Dick was calling another game at times.

Esiason's a jealous pile of crap. Aikman has three Super Bowl rings. Blondie was 11-of-25 for 144 yards, no TD's, 1 interception in his one Super Bowl. I once heard him say Montana stole his ring. Yeah, Joe stole it from a guy who had about a 46 pass rating that day. When Esiason opens his ignorant trap, global warming comes into play from his oral farting. What a gasbag that fraud Norman is.

Boomer is an arrogant prick. I'm sure Aikman is losing no sleep over this as he admires his 3 Super Bowl Rings, Super Bowl MVP Award, Emmy nomination and Pro Football Hall of Fame jacket.

vs. Boomer's NFL MVP award, his Nassau County Hall of Fame certificate, and 0 Emmy nominations.

Based on Esiason's broadcasting track record he wouldn't know unbiased broadcasting if Jim McKay explained it to him.

Finally someone has the balls to call out Jerry Jones's "advisor"
Troy Aikman.Troy has a very close
relationship with Jerry Jones and
doesn't hesitate to schill for Jerry.
Troy is like Ed Werder he is a paid
puppet with Jerry's hand up his ass.
Anyone catch Werders "reporting" on the roy williams trade it reads
a Dallas press release which is what it is.

If anything, Aikman is bias against the Cowboys when he broadcasts their games. You want to know why there was more Cowboys than Cardinals talk during that game?....THEY ARE THE ARIZONA FREAKING CARDINALS!! No one cares about them, so why would FOX want to talk about them? It's all about dollars, and talking about the Cowboys for the first half keeps more people tuned in.

Then, those people that hung around wind up seeing a great game by Arizona, and a great finish. Boomer and his Card-loving friends should be thanking any Cowboys love fest that was going on, because it kept more people tuned in and brought more attention to one of the worst NFL franchises.

The Cardinals got the viewing they deserved because of it, and now people can see they are a very good football team.

Joe Buck almost made me puke of his Cowboy-love during their game against the Redskins a couple of weeks ago. Aikman wasn't really too bias during that particular game, but he basically showed his 'colors' during the Cowboys/Cardinals game on Sunday.

I'm all for FOX removing those two (mainly, Buck, as I really don't have any problem with Aikman) from all Cowpoke games.

It's debatable as to whether Boomer actually PLAYED while he was in Arizona...and Boomer's comments are all the more amazing because Boomer has never hidden his dislike for the Cardinals ownership.

Boomer is so full of himself....he will always have a few times during the game he's covering in which he says..."when I played...." he is nothing but an egotistical a-hole. As for the comment on Fox being pro-Dodgers....are you kidding me....McCarver should have never been assigned that after saying what he said about Manny.....and Joe Buck....only has his job because of his dad....rememeber how he was so disgusted by Randy Moss' fake-mooning....if he'd done his research, he'd know Packers fans routinely do that to the opponents' bus. Do your job before opening your mouth.

"I think its bs. More people in Dallas are pissed at Troy when he calls the Cowboys games that anybody else."

I disagree wholeheartedly, I think Cowboy fans would be happy every week to have him if he were a Cowboy cheerleader. I saw last year's games against Detroit and Washington where he openly criticized the playcallings set by Jason Garrett and in the finale against Washington, he said the Cowboys weren't playing with a sense of urgency, those comments angered Cowboy fans and last week during the Arizona game, a Cowboy fan called Aikman: THE BIGGEST COWBOY HATER ON TV AND HE USED TO PLAY FOR THEM! Aikman may have some favoritism but he is not all the way Pro-Dallas.

I agree with Boomer on this one and had the same feeling as I watched the game. Troy really never gave credit to the Cardinals for anything that they did to win that game...everything came from the Cowboy perspective. And to be fair, Arizona outplayed them on both sides of the ball so why not at the very least mention that you are surprised at how the Cardinals are playing (which at least gives them a little props) If you listened to the audio of the game you would never have known that AZ was even on the field. Never mind that the Cardinals always suck...this year they had (up to that point) been very competitive and ranked alongside the Cowboys in many major categories. If you arent going to give them respect as a network than dont feature them on the game of the week! Lucky for FOX it turned out to be the game of the year so far.

The downtrodden always complain about how well the successful are doing. Aikman was a better quarterback, he's a better announcer and Boomer's ex-teams have never donw well enough for him to sound like a "homer". Thank goodness the fates have protected him from such temptation.
