Texas vs. Memphis (Houston, 2:20pm)- Jim Nantz and Billy Packer
Kansas vs. Davidson (Detroit, 5:05pm)- Gus Johnson and Len Elmore

Sorry for the delay in getting the post up today, but I'm in for the long haul now. Memphis seems to be well in control of this game and radio play-by-play man Brad Sham seemed none too happy about it. Let me know what I missed.

So apparently Jay Bilas really like Tyler Hansbrough and Dick Enberg said rape at some point. I'm going to have to go back and watch that game again.

I hate this...I had Texas winning it all. (Via SS Reporters)

I had Stanford in the Championship soooooooo. Also, what's with all of the dead air today. Nantz can't seem to come up with anything to talk about.

Nantz: "I think Texas should begin the hacking process." The hacking process for Nantz & Packer starts when they speak. (Via Anon)

"If they were going to go into the hack a Shaq then they would have had to of done it a lot earlier."- Billy Packer

They started with like six minutes left. When would you have like them to start Billy? At the start of the half???

"This is going to be a long three minutes here."- Billy Packer

Tell us about it Billy.

"You don't want to start annoying your own fans."- Billy Packer on Rick Barnes fouling down 16 with 40 seconds left.

Speaking of ESPN, tonight's Sunday Conversation has Rece Davis interviewing Knight, Parcells and LaRussa. Could you all join me in prayer for a well-placed meteor. (Via Mal)

Seriously. I saw the press release last week and didn't even want to bother posting on it. I like how TBL called them "The Grump, The Meanie, and The Drunk".

Okay now the fun starts.....Let's go Cats! And Bill Self is making substitutions two minutes into the game.

"Rush, Rise and Fire."- Gus Johnson

That never gets old.

"The scoreboard has gone blank right now Davidson and Kansas have yet to score a point according to the scoreboard. It's been a slow pace, but not that slow."- Gus Johnson

The under for the first half is a mortal lock. (Via Ed)

Winnah!

"Curry again....RING IT."- Gus Johnson

That drive was ridiculous. The kid has 8 points in a minute.

Did Gus just say, "The white lobster" when that whitey chucked a trey bomb? (Via Brett)

Yeah, it's the kid's nickname for some reason.

"Kansas goes to the zone. Looks like a box and one."- Gus Johnson

See. He doesn't just yell. He's insightful too.

"As Anderson Hunt, Anderson Anderson, Antonio Anderson banks in a three."- Clark Kellogg

Where is Anderson Hunt these days?

*Turns off TV during requisite Hansbrough interview* (Via Anon)

At the beginning of the second half, they put the bracket on screen. Instead of Xavier, it read Xaveir. Nice work CBS. (Via Daniel)

Yep they sure did.....

"White Lobster, because he's from Maine! That's what they call him."- Gus Johnson (Via Anon)

"OH! The White Lobster is cookin'!"- Gus Johnson

AA, if you want a mini shortcut as far as Enberg and Bilas, here's a little something I wrote last night as I was so fricking fed up.

I just have one question, Is Billy Packer ever wrong?

If you listen to him, he makes you think that he invented basketball, was responsible for the UCLA win streak and for the dream teams success. I hate that he calls the Final 4.

Packer: "This is going to be long three minutes with all these fouls here". First of all - you called for the "hack a Shaq" yourself. Second, it's been a long 40 minutes having to listen to you comment on this game.

That combined with the fact that he seems to hate the Sport itself drives me crazy.

Early in the game Nantz was talking about his eye injury and said "Rose hates stiches". Jim, could you identify who thinks they tickle?

I'm with you on ESPNews, SS. I will miss the omnipresent "Breaking News Alert" 10 hours after news actually 'broke', though. I'd like to be wrong, but I think we're all being set up for disappointment: Kansas will blow away Davidson by at least 17.

Kansas has defended Curry very well in the second half. He's made a couple of contested shots, but he's had someone in his face virtually the entire time.

pv845 said...

They're trying to rely on Curry too much. If they just drive they'll get fouled.

Mar 30, 2008, 6:58:00 PM

You can't cal timeout there. He didn't have possession. If anything, after the roll it has to be traveling.

When Curry can't hit a wide open 3, you know it's bad. It's been a good run for Davidson, but looks like we'll have all four #1's in the Final 4.

Apologies to all in this thread if this is not "newsworthy" and has already been mentioned elsewhere...and it certainly has nothing to do with our bracket statuses...but let me intercede into this NCAA nail-biter to mention I saw AA get props in the New York Post today in their "Blog Watch" section. "Just in time for baseball season, calling out announcers on their ridiculous calls - complete with video and audio clips." Love the site AA. When you've made the Post, you've pretty much achieved world domination. Outstanding.

Sportsattitude said...
Mar 30, 2008, 7:09:00 PM

That is not a good call by the ref. They have missed the over-the-back call all game. If you don't call the foul it has to be the inside persons ball.

Gus and Len worship Curry when he hits. When 30 forces a few shots, they ignore it. Typical. Work the script - stars! Elmore should also be embarrassed that Johnson can recognize defenses about three weeks quicker than he can.

Dear Davidson,

Thank you for running that awful play at the end of the game. Even though my team had some chances to put you away, but due to my coaching ineptness the game stayed close. Finally I will no longer be looked at as someone who can't coach in big games (even though this is still true).

Gotta give KU its props on Davidson's last possession. They had Curry double-team blanketed from the time he crossed midcourt, KU was gonna have another Wildcat beat them. Not Curry. Jayhawks really denied him in the closing seconds.

Too bad DC was on fumes the final nine minutes, but they certainly have nothing to be sorry for. They gave their all. Bill Self was probably intoning a thousand psalms when that final three attempt went up, his prayer of a Final Four berth was finally answered.

Early look at the Final Four, UNC seems poised to reach the final; Hansbrough has elevated his game when it's mattered most. But if Memphis plays like it did in Houston, they could give UCLA a serious battle. That's an intriguing semi.

A picket fence Final Four: 1-1-1-1.
