Dan Shulman Apologies For The New Speedo Guy

Sunday, March 09, 2008

I don't know how someone could approve a replay of a guy doing the "suck it" motion in a speedo and then say, "Oh crap...maybe we should apologize for that." But alas...this was the case last night.

I'd be pissed if I were Shulman. He's the one that has to take the hit for someone else's dumb decision. Oh and Duke fans....seriously, you jumped the shark back in 1994. Try something new.

Well that's no good. Fixing...will be up shortly.

ESPN itself never apologizes for anything. Just read the ombudswoman column. She will call them out for them, and they will come up with the typical canned "well, our market research tells us..." cop out.

It was sad from the get-go. ESPN made a big deal out of the speedo guys on their pregame show. You know they wanted a new speedo guy this year, and when they get it only then do they realize that it is in bad taste. Really pathetic.

Yeah that's what blew me away too. They talked about the guy all damn day and then someone else shows up and they have to apologize.

Video should be working again now.

this guy was featured on gameday about the "fans". 40k a yr for college and you're wearing a speedo on national TV ? your parents must be so proud.

Unless you are an Olympic class swimmer, speedos should be outlawed.

The quality of the broadcasts may not be the best, but at least Raycom focuses on the game.

I'm surprised UNC won, since they were playing Duke on ESPN, and UNC
was on the cover of SI this week.

i liked it and was not offended!
just another demonstration how Duke fans are heads and shoulders above everyone else, even if it is from 10-years ago. same for their coach and his program.
and i HATE Duke!

Okay, you've lost your mind Anon.

This was not offensive. Distasteful perhaps but not offensive. This is exactly what ESPN should be showing us in order to demonstrate the atmosphere of the game.
But to be clear, they weren't apologizing for showing the guy, they were apologizing for showing the guy while he was doing crotch chops.

Anyone else think "Thong Girl" would be a better idea?

I'm only offended by the stupidity....not sure how you see someone gyrating in a speedo as clever or full of team spirit. Leave it to duke marketing to sell the inane as unique

The "crazies" are only "clever" to people over 60 and other people that don't get out that much...like duke students. Duke should do something crazy like build a better arena so people other than students can attend games and maybe then they could build the local fan base that they do not have.

"thong girl" is a bad idea if you know the chicks at duke...it would be a 17 year old three foot tall Asian chick with the body of a seven year old. it would be wrong on all levels unless you are a pedafile with a taste for academic overachievers.

Speedo or no Speedo, Duke still sucks, even at rape.
