So What If I Hate Football And The Super Bowl?

Friday, February 01, 2008

Well my first response to that would be, "What...are you Un-American?!?!" I'd then calm down and along Sports Business Daily's list of "counter-programming initiatives" for your Sunday evening....

ABC: “America’s Funniest Home Videos” rerun and “Meet The Fockers” (8:00-11:00pm)
CBS: “60 Minutes” and “Shark” and “Cold Case” reruns (7:30-11:00pm)
NBC: “Biggest Loser” marathon (7:00-11:00pm)
Animal Planet: “Puppy Bowl IV” (3:00pm-3:00am)
Bravo: “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” marathon (6:00pm-2:00am)
ESPN: ISU European Championships (9:00-10:00pm)
ESPN2: “World’s Strongest Man Competition” marathon (6:00pm-5:00am)
Food Network: “Food Network Challenge” (3:00-9:00pm)
Hallmark Channel: “Murder She Wrote” marathon (8:00-3:00am)
Lifetime: “Football-Free Movie Extravaganza” (11:00-2:00am)
Oxygen: “Deion and Pilar: Primetime Love”
Spike TV: “MLE Chowdown Championship: Ham N’ Egg”
Speed TV: “Lucas Oil on the Edge,” “Monster Jams” and “PINKS: All Out” episodes (2:00pm-4:00am)
TBS: “What Women Want” movie marathon (Noon-midnight)
TLC: “Miss America Pageant” re-air (6:00pm-2:00am)
TNT: “The Closer” marathon (Noon-midnight)
Travel Channel: “Tribal Odyssey” marathon (7:00pm-3:00am)
USA Network: “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (6:00pm-3:00am)
WE: “Rich Bride, Poor Bride,” “My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding” and “Platinum Wedding” marathon (4:00pm-5:00am)
So there you have it. If any of you watch the Hallmark channel or the “Football-Free Movie Extravaganza” on Sunday....I don't know you. The Puppy Bowl however is fair game.

Which gets higher ratings? The Murder She Wrote marathon or the World's Strongest Man marathon.

see you all are too narrowly focused.

You could also:

1. play a board game with your kids;
2. Read to your kids;
3. Read a book;

No one says you have to watch ANYTHING on TV...

;-)

@Christopher Byrne-
1. I'm not watching the game anyway(no need to explain. I have my reasons);
2. I don't like board games;
3. I don't have kids or a significant other of any kind;
4. .I've read every book in my possession, all 300 or so of them, many of them twice.

I just have one question: is watching DVDs acceptable to you?

Shucks Bruce, those were just tongue in cheek suggestions. I really don't care what anyone does, just having some fun with that alternative TV-List.

Looks like its not just us Jesuit-educated Catholics that need to have thick skin;-).

And yes, St Louis University IS a Catholic University, that at least on paper has to answer to the Bishop.

That movie should have its name changed to "What Women Want if They Enjoy Being Berated and Vomited On."

Also, there's a Death Wish marathon of all five movies on AMC, and a double showing of the LiLo version of "The Parent Trap" on ABC Family.

Should there be a Salary Cap in Football?
Personally I think there should be! It’s just getting to be stupid money in football at the top of the premiership!
It’s always the same teams at the top proving that football success is based purely on money which ruins the idea of it being a sport! They’ve done it in rugby, basketball, hockey and American football and it makes the sports more competitive and better to watch!
I do a little Spread Betting from time to time and most matches don’t hold much surprise who is going to win, its boring! I want to see a team at the bottom pulling off an amazing season beating last seasons winners in a close fought battle!
Make things fair! It shouldn’t be about money!
Plus!
All there is all that money in the premiership and barely any of it stays in the UK so it’s not even helping the economy!
From my Spread Betting (or more precisely Football Spread Betting) if I ever win big (which is never, I’m unlucky) it’s still nothing compared to the average premiership players weekly wage!

Forgive me. I am an American and I hate football. This sport does not make any sense to me at all. Basically, I see it as some very huge huge men overly armoured for their pointless attacks on each other so one guy may advance a few feet. The guys who block are just huge. How hard do you think it is to learn how to push, shove and throw down someone when you weigh 300 pounds or more? There are only a few athletes who have some skill in this sport ...to throw and catch, maybe be a serious good dodger and run fast!

The worst thing about this sport is there is absolutely no endurance needed. These guys re-group every few minutes because each play lasts only a few seconds! It is ridiculous. There is no action that is constant in this game. It drives me nuts. I often wonder what is it about this sport that people so much love...what? The commercials, the food, the coach's face, the aggression? What?

Watch some Soccer or Basketball and you will find that every athlete on the team has real skill in their sport, is quite fit from playing thier sport and actually play in the game for a length of good time. They sweat like banchees cause they actually move like crazy ...NOT because they are hot from wearing so much clothing!

I don't know..you tell me?
