Booed PPK Girl To Get The Star Treatment From The Pats

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

I obviously didn't have video capabilities over the past weekend, so I would have had this sooner. Before the 4th quarter of the Bolts-Colts game on Sunday the NFL had it's winners of the Punt, Pass, Kick Competition on field to be honored. Each age group had a winner and the 14-year old winner just happened to be from Stratham, NH and wearing a Pats jersey.

She got booed unmercifully by Colts fans. So much so that Patriots' Owner Robert Kraft feels the need to stick up for her.....

Fourteen-year-old Anny Grant was the Patriots' representative in the annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition. And when she was introduced along with the other winners before the fourth quarter of San Diego's playoff win over the Colts, she was the only one booed by the crowd.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft says she'll be honored on the field this week before the AFC championship game against the Chargers.

Grant also returned from school today and heard a phone message from Andre Tippett, the Patriots' executive director of community affairs and a former star linebacker. She called back and was ecstatic when Tippett extended the invitation to the game - plus tickets for her, her parents and two brothers. She says she knows the boos in Indianapolis weren't directed at her personally ... but rather at the New England jersey she was wearing.

That sounds like fun. Now she gets to go to the game and have Philip Rivers yell at her.

That Robert Kraft, what a humanitarin.

What a vomit laden story.

Why are girls doing PPK anyway? Is that the dumbest thing ever conceived?

Oh, in the name of tolerance and diversity, we have to have the girls play make believe.

Just stupid.

Who the Fuck cares about PPK? And why are they interupting a playoff game for this stupid shit? The crowd should have booed all of the kids for stoping a PLAYOFF GAME!

It was only a few boos, hardly "unmercifully". She laughed about it.

At least she expected it and at 14 could understand why hey did it. what if that was some 8 year old that happened to? Or better yet your child?

People's fandom/hatred of other teams in this country is just a wee bit extreme at times.

Once again, I feel like I'm on an MLB message board. It takes real balls to boo a 14 year old girl. Stay classy Indianapolis.

I suspect, as part of their new partnership, CBS will televise her getting cheered in an attempt to pump up the Patriots and make them look good to the nation.

Indianans booing a teenage? I thought they were the HEARTLAND of America and morally superior to those of us on the coasts. Is there anything left to believe in anymore?

I think the truly funny thing is that they booed the girl wearing the Pats jersey, but they didn't boo the girl wearing the Chargers jersey. You know, the team that was, at that moment, beating them?

Like Patriots fans wouldn't have booed a Colts kid. Or if there was a baseball equivalent the Red Sox and Yankees. They're too classy for that.

JETER SUCKS! AROD SWALLOWS!

That booing was "unmerciful"? Tacky and really poor taste/class yes? Unmerciful? Not even close.

Indy fans are pussies. I would've been lobbing "D" batteries! And yelling, "The only reason you were born was because your Daddy's rubber had a hole in it!"

Just an FYI - she's actually from Stratham NH, not MA

Yeah, what Lindsay said. I only point it out because Stratham is about three towns over from Rye, the town I grew up in. We don't get into the news for sports-related stuff very often.

On a related note, she goes to Exeter High School, which knocked my football team out of the state playoffs my junior year (29-0 - ouch) and has emerged as a mini-dynasty over the last decade. So, um, yeah - I'm glad they booed her. (Kidding, kidding)

Jan 16, 2008, 3:51:00 PM

I was making a sandwich when this happened, but I heard the boos and thought, "Who the hell's booing kids? Way to represent, my fellow Hoosiers."

Now that I've seen what it was all about, it's basically a non-story. If they had booed an eight-year-old, I would have thought differently. The girl was old enough to realize what was going on and took it in stride.

And we all know Boston fans would have been 100 times as bad.

wfy said it right on. The reason this is a story is because us morally-inferior, 'cheater'-rooting, latte-drinking commie Bostonians have been taking it on the chin.

Hey, we *know* we're a-holes. But guess what? Those morally superior Saint Tony-rooting heartland family-values swell folks...they're a-holes too.

Honestly, I love it.

yeah she's pretty dumb to do that, but people shouldnt be so suprised, i'm sure patriots fans would have something to say if someone wearing an indianapolis jersey gets honored on their field. media blows everything out of proportion

I went through a whole range of thoughts when I saw this live. I expected it to happen, but then was glad when the fans weren't really booing at first, then it picked up and I thought it was shitty.

But the way the girl handled it was great, so I thought it was okay in the end.

But a staple of the pictures Maryland fans use when talking shit about Duke is that picture of a 6-year-old in a Duke jersey crying on his dad's shoulder on ESPN, with the scoreboard showing the Terps winning.

That's saved on my computer, so I can't really say much.
