I'm Not One To Start Conspiracy Theories, But The Officials Sure Wanted WVU To Win That Game

Saturday, December 01, 2007

If you haven't been watching Pitt is handling West Virginia and should be killing them at this point. The problem is that on two occasions officials called phantom holding penalties and added a non-interference call immediately following one of the holdings. The first holding call came on a TD and here's the video on the former two calls....

Pitt somehow hung on and that's yet another #2 to go down. And with Missouri's impending loss to Oklahoma coming in the next 30 minutes we're going to be looking at an OSU-Georgia Championship game. One of the greatest season's ever is going to end with the shittiest finale of all time.

It's never happening, but here's another vote for Playoffs.

I'm pretty sure most of America is bitter.

Do you really think it's going to be UGA? The ABC guys don't seem to think so, since they "didn't even make the SEC championship game." Which is unbelievably stupid logic, because UGA, Tennessee and LSU were all 6-2, but that seems like it might be what happens.

It was just terrible watching this game with the horrible refs, and Mike Patrick not shutting the fuck up about how many timeouts the Mountain-queers had late in the game, you would think his spotters would have corrected him after he constantly said that there were 2 timeouts remaining, when in reality there was only 1 left, kind of important, but really fucking annoying

I'm sorry but Ohio State is the 10th best team in the country. I'm not being biased in saying that (I don't think) and of course LSU deserves it I just don't think they'll make it in with the losses.

Remember this is a computer system and not human. Not matter how many people vote LSU #1 in the polls the computer still sees those two losses.

Georgia also technically played the toughest schedule this year.

On the play in question, the field judge threw the flag and he was 10 yards away from the play. The linesman, who was 2 feet from the play didn't throw a flag. The officials must have been from the WV high school circuit. I am happy though Pitt hung on to win. The played so much better than WV.

I just don't see LSU leap frogging that many teams. The whole system is just wack. How can LSU be behind VT after destroying them earlier in the year?

The BCS was meant to fail and this is the first year it'll truly entirely fail.

Dec 2, 2007, 12:28:00 AM

A valid point that I forgot to make on my own blog is that VT lost badly to LSU. Good call.

On the bright side, maybe all this chaos will cause them to re-evaluate the system? Maybe? Please?

Yeah, the announcer just said something like "that's a quarter they need to take outside the stadium and bury." Realistically, that quarter of "football" from the Warriors needs a double-tap, back of the head.

So you think LSU can't leapfrog Georgia, KU, and VT? I can see them easily getting past KU. Georgia and VT are harder to figure. VT smacked down BC, but BC really played like shit in the second half of the season. Georgia, as well documented, didn't make a conference championship, so I think LSU can surpass them...but it's all speculation.

Terrible, terrible officiating in that WVU-Pitt game. Plainly biased to the point that the commentators and the talking heads on SportCenter made an issue of it. Let's just hope the NCAA makes an issue of it too, to ensure crap like that doesn't ever happen again.

Oh, and I agree. Just say no one wins this year because the BCS is fucked.

The system is fucked and if LSU doesn't end up getting into the National Championship and wins their bowl game, I guarantee we have co-National Champions again. Then they'll say they'll fix it, but it's unfixable without at least a plus one system.

Wow. My question is, will an informed decision indeed be made between now and tomorrow afternoon? I still don't understand why the polls come out on Sundays, with no time to review game tape, stories, etc, with many voters likely to have missed a great deal of the wall to wall action today (and probably sleeping during Hawaii's game tonight), all while competing with a full slate of NFL games.

WVU is being eliminated from the discussion because of timing. Their loss came today. LSU's was a week ago...is that better? WVU's was to an unranked opponent. So was LSU's, Oklahoma's, and USC's. More at:

Hawaii is just fun to watch - that's what makes it easy to root for them, even if reason flies in their face. They finish perfect, and probably have a chance to be the third non-BCS team to crash the party (and win the bowl game). Brennan turned into a machine after that first quarter

AA - don't get all pissy on us and BTW, the coaches and Harris polls make up 2/3rds of the BCS formula. So even if LSU is 3rd or even 4th in the computers, if they are a strong 2nd in the polls, they'll be in the BCS title game.

And as an Ohio State fan, I remember all you holier than thou bitches complaining about Ohio State when they beat Miami in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. You were wrong then and hopefully you'll be wrong now. But I can't put a ton of weight into your opinion simply because you don't even have a clue how the damn BCS works in the first place.

1) SEC
2) AFC
3) NFC

Right?

Give me a break, watch the SEC go out and lose 2 out of 3 to the Big Ten again LOL

Admit it SEC fans, you are SCARED that this might be the year OHio State wins against an SEC school in a bowl game.

0-7 means they are due. Is this the year? Well since the SEC is MEDIOCRE THIS YEAR, maybe it is. Of course the entire national landscape that is college football is easily at the end of one of the most exciting yet one of the worst seasons in history they might ALL be mediocre at best.

and dont knock on Ohio STate this defense is light years ahead of last years, they only let up 28 in their loss to Illinois and one score shoulda been reviewed by an offciating crew who is about to be shit all over with a suspension from the big ten. Chris Wells is way better then anotonio pittman. the rush D is unbelievable. and Boeckman is alot like Craig Krenzel and Robiskie is a HUGE big play threat. "Georgia also technically played the toughest schedule this year."

Did Georgia win the SEC and beat Virginia Tech by 41 points?

And screw USC and their "we're the best right now" bullshit argument. You lost to Stanford, and you're supposed to base your vote on the ENTIRE SEASON, not just the number of points you scored against Arizona State.

And if you base your pathetic argument on that game, then what do you say when LSU scored 48 on VA Tech and beat them by more points? The Hokies are a better team than the Sun Devils.

USC is trying to spin this "best team right now" is just plain pathetic.

Playoffs would kill the sport, you should know that.

Tom Luginbill said earlier that he was in agreement with Carroll about how the "hottest" team might not have a chance to compete for the title. That's kind of the idea, Carroll said something like, "the team with the best season is the one that's rewarded" (not verbatim). That's the whole point of college football.

Fowler also contradicted himself. Either you take the few weeks of excitement that a playoff would bring or you take the 3 months of the regular season drama. A playoff would make college football like college basketball.

Look OSU fans...I'm not blaming them for their schedule it's not their fault that the Big Ten had a down year and beating Michigan isn't worth as much as it used to be, but if they end up in that Championship game against LSU they're getting killed. Especially in Louisiana.

Just look at last year.

You have every right to get in based on the system...I just don't think it's right. I honestly think Hawaii could beat the Bucks and that's not a joke.

Keep coming with your opinions....I enjoy them all. Whether you're a Bucks fan or not :)

Dec 2, 2007, 1:01:00 PM

AA you should think before you start typing some of this out.

First, claiming that Georgia - OSU would be the shittiest final of all time is a horrible comment. Obviously you don't remember Miami-Nebraska in 2001-02 or USC-Oklahoma in 04-05.

Second, your little tourney to crown the national champion from the SEC? Georgia with two losses lost to a now unranked South Carolina team, at home. Tennessee is a 4 loss team, and got drubbed by Alabama. Florida lost 3 games, including 2 at home, one being to an unranked Auburn team. LSU lost twice, including at home to an unranked Arkansas team.

At least Ohio State can say they lost to a potential BCS team. You need to swallow your pride for about 3 seconds and realize you sound like a moron when you blatantly blast OSU just because you don't like them. All they did was win 11 games and only lost once, and its not their fault that 6 teams in front of them all lost within 2 weeks. Deal with it.

So...if humans aren't telling the computers what to do, who is?

Are you serious? Nobody, and I mean nobody, would have given a rat's ass about Pitt/WVU or Oklahoma/Missouri last night or every other game involving a contender the past X weeks if it weren't for the BCS. There were so many eyeballs on a Pitt/WVU game last night that would have been completely meaningless without the BCS.

The BCS is succeeding in transforming college football from a regional sport into a truly national sport. And the conferences love it.

QFT. Nobody cares about college basketball during the regular season except people who follow a particular team.

Does anybody actually think the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals were the best team in baseball? Of course they weren't: they got hot/lucky at the right time. A playoff would not crown the "best" it would crown whoever got hot/lucky at the end of the year. If Boston College or Illinois or Arizona State "won" a 16-team playoff this season, could anybody seriously tell me with a straight face they were the best team in college football?

I did go to the Wisconsin game. I'm not saying they're a bad team, but based on the schedules other teams played that they are about the 10th best team. I think any team in the top 10 should and probably would beat them. They'd be an underdog against most of those teams.

Dec 2, 2007, 1:37:00 PM
