Was Steve Young's Trip To The Booth Last Night A Sign Of Things To Come?

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

A lot of you tuned out of last night's game, and rightfully so...the game was pretty uneventful. While the game moved at a snails pace, the action in the booth was frenzied throughout the night. Jaws and Tony argued and bickered multiple times during the contest, Drew Carey mentioned CBS and Tirico almost lost it, and most importantly Steve Young made an appearance during the 4th quarter.

On the surface it seemed like the ex-49ers QB was there to talk about San Franciso, but it quickly turned into something more. Almost immediately Jaws exclaimed, "Great now we can talk about Football!", and the two completely took over the booth for the better part of the 4th quarter. Kornheiser was completely locked out and Tirico couldn't even keep up with the two.

So my questions to you are....Was this just a SF related trip upstairs for Steve, or are they trying a few new things out? Who would you prefer between Kornheiser and Young? And could the booth be tolerable with two ex-QBs as analysts?

I'm not starting any rumors here just throwing some ideas around. After mentioning at the end of October that Kornheiser was heading back to radio many of you proclaimed that he had done this last year as well. While that is true he does have a year-to-year contract and can be dropped, or quit after any season. Tony is great at most of what he does, but being a Football Analyst isn't one of them. Even though I think Monday Night Football would be better off without him, I don't know how much better it would be with Tirico, Jaws, and Young.

What say you?

It can't get much worse. Joe Buck with Joe Morgan would be an improvement.

I think GMoney and gman would be horrible in the booth together... good, now that i have your attention. Who would be good together. Although i agree with most of the opinions that most of these guys suck eggs. I don't think anyone is going to be happy with what ever is put out there are they? Just like presidential politics. So in the end we all waste our breath. We could just put the absolute worse in the booth and hope for some sort of explosion. Say [boom]Bill Walton, Mike patrick and Bryant gum balls. [/boom]

As much as it may pain some of you, I don't see Tony Kornheiser leaving MNF anytime soon. I think he will be back for another season.

I still say announcerless games are the way to go; unless Verne Lundquist is available.

All seriousness aside, Jaws may know his football, but dear God, he hurts my ears. His voice is white noise to me.

When NBC aired their first few preseason games in HD last year, they had a lot of audio problems, and frequently the only audio was the ambient noise in the stadium. It was, hands down, the best television viewing experience ever.

Can the announcers, and leave a mic somewhere.

AA, I totally agree with you.

I was watching the game at a buddy's house and we both agreed that this was a defacto tryout for Young in the booth...and we both agreed that he is FAR SUPERIOR to Kornhole.

I would not be surprised in the least if Young was in the booth in the next year or two...hopefully next year rather than the next.

As much as I hated Young while he was batteling my 'Boys for NFC supremecy in the '90s, I really admire his abilities as an analyst. And yes, thought it pains me to admit this, he is head and shoulders above Emmitt Smith.

Emmitt couldn't even get the fact that the NFC West is not a Conference, but a division within the Conference.

I was willing to give him a pass because it was his first year, but that fuck up was simply embarrasing.
