CBS Releases Announcing Assignments For Weeks 1 and 2

Monday, August 20, 2007

Say a small prayer, cross your fingers, and find your favorite team......It's Announcing pairing time! Here are CBS' teams and what games they are covering for Weeks 1 and 2:

WEEK 1 -- Sept. 9

1:00 PM, ET starts:
Denver @ Buffalo- Gus Johnson/Randy Cross
Pittsburgh @ Cleveland- Kevin Harlan/Rich Gannon
Kansas City @ Houston- Ian Eagle/Solomon Wilcots

Tennessee @ Jacksonville- Don Criqui/Steve Beuerlein
New England @ N.Y. Jets- Jim Nantz/Phil Simms
Miami @ Washington- Greg Gumbel/Dan Dierdorf

WEEK 2 – Sept. 16 – DOUBLEHEADER

1:00 PM, ET starts:
Houston @ Carolina- Gus Johnson/Steve Tasker
Cincinnati @ Cleveland- Bill Macatee/Steve Beuerlein
Buffalo @ Pittsburgh- Ian Eagle/Solomon Wilcots
Indianapolis @ Tennessee- Greg Gumbel/Dan Dierdorf

4:15 PM, ET starts:
Kansas City @ Chicago- Jim Nantz/Phil Simms
N.Y. Jets @ Baltimore- Dick Enberg/Randy Cross
Oakland @ Denver- Kevin Harlan/Rich Gannon

I thought Gus Johnson and Solomon Wilcots was a pretty good team in the season opener, but it looks like CBS decided to split them up. None of these teams, but Gujo and Tasker in Week 2, really stand out to me. That could just be CBS just spreading their talent around though.

I wonder why they split up the announcing corps...different on weeks 1 and 2.

Probably because Dick Enberg is calling the U.S. Open?

Off Topic a bit.

But watching this MNF game I can't help but notice that Mike Tirico has the great ability to indiscreetly throw in a few great Michigan Homerisms during any of his broadcasts. Anybody else notice that?

I know I do :> (go blue)

Why does Kevin Harlan continue to have a job? Horrible.

On a related topic, is CBS finally going to put all of their games in HD like Fox does? Very frustrating to be a Titans fan and to always get the horrible announcing team AND no HD.

Just a quick question, if both Gumble and Nance are out calling games, who's the studio host for CBS? I'm sure I know this, I just can't think of who it is right now.

It's James Brown Anon.

Brian- I think that's par for the course.

Don Criqui and Steve Tasker are the worst CBS has to offer. I want to know who will call the Seattle/Cincy game in week 3.

CBS will have 5 HD games this year, 6 next year.

No Greg Gumbel for the first two weeks for the Steelers, good. He's the only CBS guy I can't really stand (at least on football, he was excellent for basketball back when he was on NBC). Well, him and Criqui.

Don Criqui is the best, a consummate pro. He called many Stiller games with trumpy back in the day and metered Trumpy, who hated the Stillers badly.

That's NFL National Football League Super Bowl Champion Randy Cross.

Randy Cross and Phil Simms are worse than a back alley colonoscopy.

Jeff,

I was going to suggest that there be a new MNF Drinking Game where you had to drink every time Mike Tirico mentioned that somebody went to Michigan. But, like so many other drinking games, it wouldn't be much of a challenge.

And I liked how three of the four studio analysts were former Cowboys. Who does ESPN think it is? Fox?

And as for this post, I still say Gus Johnson sucks. Dude, stop friggin' screaming at me.

Phil Simms is the worst.

Actually, they all suck, cept for DIerdorf, he's not awful.

Just less awful than the rest. Steve Tasker...

NFL National Football League Super Bowl Champion MVP Steve Tasssssssker.

Don Criqui, by cracky? Do they need to defrost him from being cryogenically frozen before he does the games?

Randy Cross seems like a schmuck.

Ok, it's 2007. They put poker in HD. Little league baseball. Regular-season college soccer. Even college lacrosse gets some HD time, but CBS can't figure out how to put all NFL games in HD????? What an absolute joke.

I like Nantz and Harlan...they give me each detail-who is in,good blocks, listen sometime and you'll hear...they do exactly what a pbp guy shoud do...they do the game!
