Rick Dempsey Does Not Care About Your Philanthropic Endeavours

MASN recently added ex-Oriole catcher Rick Dempsey to its broadcast coverage to be the color man with Gary "Bloody Sock" Thorne. Well I had thought Dempsey was doing a pretty good job....that was until yesterday.

Rick.....Just a quick FYI....it's not really kosher to make a joke about "Roughing" someone up when a guest is in the booth to promote a Domestic Violence Fundraiser.....

Dempsey: "Laura, will this kind of help Jay in the domestic violence area? If he doesn't start getting a few more hits, you might grab him around the neck and rough him up a little bit. [Is] this money going to go to help him a little bit with maybe some of the hospital bills or something like that?"

• Giuliani: "I don't know, Rick. I don't think I'm encouraging that. I'm definitely not-"

• Dempsey: "Not going there?"

• Giuliani: "Nope, not going there."

• Dempsey: "All right, I'll domestically violate him if he doesn't start getting some more hits."
Ha, are you serious? What in people's (announcer's) brains that just shuts off in these moments. Do they just lack that angel on their shoulder and/or a conscience?

In all seriousness, while this is a mistake.......is this that much different that what Imus said? Both were trying to make a joke, and both failed miserably. MASN said today it has no plans to punish Dempsey, but with all of the PC Policing going on lately it seems sure to come as this story makes its way to the National Media.

I personally would think a suspension without pay would suffice (same I thought for Imus), but don't be surprised if it comes out worse for the Dipper after a week or so.

P.S.- Is there an Al Sharpton for women? Martha Burk???

Dempsey's remarks no laughing matter (Baltimore Sun)

UPDATE: Oh Joy! Can't Stop the Bleeding has the video! That could not be anymore awkward...ugh.
