Is Joe Morgan Being An A-Hole?

Monday, April 16, 2007

You know what you should do when you're celebrating one of the most influential players to ever play the game? Call out his widowed wife for celebrating a base hit.

Aside from Joe Morgan being a d***....the whole Jackie Robinson Day was a little ridiculous. I understand that it was a great day for baseball, but they over did it just a bit too much. Everyone wearing the #42, the choir singing "Oh Happy Day", and Joe Morgan name dropping everyone he's ever talked to. Just way over the top....I'll give the last word to La Rev (from the comments).....
I've been struggling the last few hours about if it's Kosher to hack on the ceremony last night. On the one hand, Jack Robinson (also struggling with the name thing...I wonder if "Jack" was a special name only Mrs. Robinson called him) deserves all the praise he got last night. On the other hand, it was so full of Bud Selig's Used Car Sell-opalooza that it just felt odd. Also, condsidering the story they told us last night of how Robinson never mentioned in his autobiography how his bunt set up the winning run in his first game, I feel like he would have felt weird with the whole ceremony.
I agree.

I dislike Morgan as much as the next guy, but this seems to be reaching a bit... seemed like an innocent joke.

It came off as pretty pompous to me....especially coming from a guy who gloats about the Reds every chance he gets.

The first thing he says you can tell he's obviously ticked....I think he tries to save himself after that.

yes but he talked to hammerin hank about it today. so there. Ehy was such a big deal being made about the lack of black baseball players the reason is called basketball or football, also lacrosse is growing and baseball is shrinking stop crying shorten the season and make the games shorter.

Any coverage of Lewis Hamilton on ESPN?

Bueller?

I guess I will probably need to explain who he is...

What are blacks called in England anyway? African-American Britons?

I remember seeing Dat Nguyen's retirement announcement on ESPN...they said it like it was just another guy retiring.

But he wasn't just another guy, he was the son of Vietnamese who fled after the NVA Communists destroyed the country...Merits a little more than a throwaway announcement, especially if we are to hold racial quotas above all else...

I cannot believe the racist comments made by Mrs. Robinson and endorsed by Joe Morgan have gone unnoticed. She said (of the need for more black baseball players in MLB), "people come out to watch their own kind". Joe Morgan exclaimed, "exactly". Could any white media person state that "whites come out to see their own kind" without losing their job? Could the NBA survive with an audience who only came to see their own kind? White people love sport and have proven that the races of players don't matter. Joe Morgan should be fired by ESPN and Mrs. Robinson should be ashamed!!!
