Can Everyone Please Stop? (Especially the WNBA)

Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Okay this is getting out of hand. What the hell is wrong with media these days? Billy Packer "Fags Out", Don Imus jokes about "nappy headed hos", and Colin Cowherd....well, you know.

National Media....can you just do me a favor and shut the f*** up? Seriously....just be quiet. For once please stop making everything about you and just report the news???

And You know who else can shut up? Donna Orender.

"It was absolutely tragic, especially coming as it did at the time that was celebrating all the accomplishments of women's basketball," Orender said. "We had just had the predraft camp, it was the day of the draft in conjunction with the Final Four. It was tremendously appalling, because the women's game is all about bringing people together, no matter their religion, nationality or other differences."

Nothing is worse than someone making a bad joke or a point to get noticed and the next person using the situation for their own agenda. Are you kidding me Donna Orender??? NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE WNBA!!! I'm sorry but that's just the way it is. Your stupid PR tricks are just going to make me hate the league more. And your sport is the only one that brings people together? Just shut up....that's what sport does as a whole. Sure there a bad parts, but there's no other venue that does this to such a degree.

Everyone just take a deep breath....relax. No Imus and Packer shouldn't be fired. Well Packer should be fired for his shitty announcing and surly attitude, but that's different. Both are just old curmudgeons trying to get a cheap laugh. We've now made them that much more popular because of people like Orender and the rest. How many people do you think will listen to Imus the first day he's back from suspension?

In all honesty....that's exactly what we did for Cowherd. I know it's hard not to listen to it when everyone is talking about it, but that (expletive deleted) got exactly what he wanted. He pissed off a group of people....he gained more viewers....and he wasn't punished. Now that we've spent a few days talking about it....let it go everyone.

Enough with the boycott Cowherd and ESPN Radio talk.....trust me when I say that his talent will take care of this own its own. Everyone stop giving the idiot(s) press and ratings, and let's go back to dick and fart jokes. Okay? OKAY?!?!?!....good.

so are you saying i should give up teh boycott. And seriously i think taht there should be polls every five years adn we vote out a league, the wnba has got to go. If someone can name me the last 3 champions without going on google or anyother site then fine. IF not the league goes.

Not sure why doom credited you for the boycott idea in the first place - not once did I ever see you endorse it. Why I don't mind taking credit for the boycott, I am also sticking with it, for many reasons beyond this little Shrutebag stunt.

I'm not against it in principal....it's just a waste of energy. ESPN can't really be beat. The rub being that they broadcast 90% of the games we watch. People aren't going to just stop tuning in.

I say we beat them in other ways...the things that have made Sports Blogs famous. We report on stuff they don't like the Song Girl, With Leather, Are You Jackin' it, and Drunk Atheletes......

Just spend our energy and resources better.

I can't help but think that Rutgers is spinning this whole situation for their own promotional gain, either - anybody else see their joke of a presser today?

I'm watching the presser as I write this. I do NOT think they are using this for promotional gain but I believe that are taking the wrong angle.

The issue is prominent media figures abusing their privilege and the platform they are on. It isn’t about race, sexism, etc. Don Imus will serve his 2-week suspension and probably be cancelled by MSNBC. NBC is really shaking Imus up and I cannot see them continuing to simulcast his program on the cable net.

I don’t think Imus should be fired, the fact that he spoke about another “big power” University works against him. Had he made the comment about a sole individual I think this would be out of the media cycle.

With CBS/NBC waiting so long to hand the suspension out they prolonged the news cycle—and even Rutgers prolongs it by having their presser six days afterward.

Even more on the promotional part from Rutgers—did Imus do this to promote his charity radio-thon later this week???

I agree with you AA... afterall, you're one of the reasons I choose to read blogs over the "big dogs" everyday of the week. It has been that way since I discovered blogs over a year ago thanks to Shanoff via the Quickie. Boycotting is not really a waste of energy though, it's actually pretty easy. And boycott's can affect the big dogs - ask the Ford Motor Company about that. Boycott Ford

Thanks AO....I appreciate the kind words. I'll support and link the site all day....it's just a tough fight. Very David vs. Goliath stuff.

The just stop title was in reference to mainstream media, and not to you guys. Good luck.
